Olaplex is one of the most popular buzzwords in hair care with celebs like Kim Kardashian raving about the benefits. But is it really worth it? Read on to find out how Olaplex at Flirt Urban Salon in San Diego lives up to all the hype by repairing damaged and brittle hair and proactively protecting your tresses during coloring.
What is Olaplex?
Olaplex is more than a hair conditioning treatment– it’s like a “reset” button for your locks. It permanently rebuilds and reconnects damaged disulphide bonds in hair that are broken during the chemical process of coloring, and from regular heat from styling tools. It’s scientifically-developed to work on the hair from within, unlike a typical conditioner that only affects the superficial condition of hair.
We San Diego girls love to go blonde, but years of bleaching can compromise hair. As a “bond multiplier”, Olaplex works to replenish the strength, structure and integrity of years of hair damage. If you’re going lighter with your hair, Olaplex a must. It can be applied during the coloring process to help maintain the disulphide bonds within the hair structure that are normally broken down during hair coloring– providing the ultimate breakage insurance.
Can Olaplex be used on all hair types?
Heck yes! It works on all hair types, from straight, to super curly. Whether you’re Asian, Caucasian, African American, or Hispanic, Olaplex can improve your hair. And it isn’t just for hair that’s been previously chemically processed– it can be beneficial for “virgin” hair too.
What is an Olaplex treatment like?
Olaplex is a three-part treatment, the first two of which have to be done in a hair salon:
- Olaplex No 1: Bond Multiplier – Done inside our San Diego hair salon, this first step begins the process of preventing damage and repairing broken disulfide bonds. The stylist can add it to the hair as a stand-alone treatment, or it can be mixed in with coloring products to minimize the damage they cause.
- Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector – In this next salon step, the formula is applied on the hair once the hair color is rinsed. The treatment continues to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds. We typically leave this on for about 20 minutes to maximize the benefits and to ensure the strongest, shiniest, and healthiest hair possible.
- Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector – This final step allows you to take matters into your own hands with continuous protection from ongoing hair damage at home. This take-home treatment should be used once a week by applying to damp hair and leaving on for a minimum of 10 minutes before washing. You can also leave it on overnight. The unofficial “Step 4” is receiving compliments from strangers on your healthy, beautiful hair.
